Outfits That Make You Look Slimmer:
Since it takes a while to get back to your former self after delivery, it's helpful to know what outfit choices make you look slimmer after a c-section. It may be possible to look more fit just by changing your clothes. Here’s how:
Undergarments
This is where the battle is lost or won. Everyone (including guys) needs to have the right underwear for the right look. Every woman, regardless if she's had kids or not, has a trouble spot that will ruin an otherwise great outfit if she’s not wearing the right shapewear. Picture a muffin-top sticking out over a great pair of jeans or a few rolls of back fat to create that “pack of hotdogs” look under an otherwise cute fitted top. NOT a good look. Here’s how to fix it:
For the stomach, a waist clincher will flatten and smooth the tummy. This works best to prevent a muffin-top or to flatten a belly pooch left over from a cesarean.
For upper and lower back fat, opt for a shaping vest. These flatten and slim the upper and lower back while smoothing out the stomach as well.
For the thighs, hips and butt, choose Spanx tights, shaping briefs or a body suit style shaper. Bodysuits will flatten everything from back fat rolls, belly pooches, love handles, muffin tops and cellulite on the hips, thighs and butt.
Color
Choose a solid block of color over large, busy patterns or separates of different colors. This will create a longer, leaner look of uniformity. The eye will travel all the way up and down the body which will make you look taller and slimmer.
Tops & Jackets
Jackets with shoulders that are too long (with seams that hang low on the shoulder) make you look heavier than you actually are. Shorter women should purchase petite sizes with the correct sleeve and shoulder length to prevent looking overweight. For jackets you already own, any good seamstress or tailor can easily remedy this problem. Choose tops made of high quality, weighty fabrics. Tops should fit close to the body but without squeezing or compressing any areas.
Stripes
Always go with thin, vertical stripes over broad horizontal stripes that make you look heavy.
Sizing
One very important rule is to buy clothes that actually fit. Clothes that are baggy, too long, too wide and hang off of the body will not disguise your troubled areas. They will only make you look bigger than you are. Choose outfits with shape over ones that don’t gently hug any body parts in any way.
Balance
Consider your body shape when choosing outfits. Don't just think of trying to cover your stomach. If you have a pear-shaped body (wider hips, thighs) then balance your shape with the right choice of tops. A jacket or slightly loose-fitting top may help to widen your upper body and make you look more proportioned. By contrast, an apple-shaped woman (large waist, small upper body and hips) should try to create an hourglass look. Choose a skirt with a flair with a broad waist-band that doesn't cut into the stomach. Wear a waist-clincher undergarment that pulls the stomach in and flattens it out.
